 "I didn't trust anything anymore, except for Dynamo."

I finally got around to listening to the first book for June's #LetsEarItAudiobookChallenge and I'm addicted! 🎧🐴

I was always a horsey person growing up and, instead of posters of pop stars and actors on my bedroom wall, I had posters of eventers, showjumpers and horses! Yep, I was one of those weird kids! 😂🐎

Ambition threw me right back to the days when I would spend dawn to dusk at my grandparents' farm with the horses. 🥰

I am now thoroughly invested in Jules and Dynamo, along with the other horses in her stable. As I listened, I could hear every whinny, experience every nicker and imagine that soft, velvety muzzle just nestling on my shoulder. 🐴❤️

I was interested to read about the struggles of eventing life in Florida, how they manage the heat, the sudden changes in weather and the hurricanes. It's such a different scenario to the UK, where we can pretty much ride all year round and at most times of the day (apart from maybe this year)! ☀️

The main characters in this series are definitely the horses — oh, and Marcus the beagle, who I adored. I mean, who wouldn't want a beagle sharing their pillow?! 🐶❤️ Jules doesn't need any friends when she's surrounded by these adoring animals — plus, they don't answer back... well, not very often! 😂

If you're a horsey person and you loved pony club books as a kid (remember Ruby Ferguson and the Pullein-Thompson sisters?), then you'll love these too. 🐎📖 Even if horses aren't your thing, give Ambition a try. It's well-written, with adorable characters and a great storyline.

US Road Trip - May 2023 - Summary

Summary  Thank you if you've managed to read this far and I hope you found at least some of it helpful and interesting. As a quick summary, we booked Hilton hotels (primarily Hampton Inn & Suites) throughout all the time on the actual road, apart from Yellowstone where we chose an independent hotel. We were more than happy with Hilton; choosing the same hotel means you know what you're getting. We had a budget of £150 per night (apart from Yellowstone) so that should give you some idea of what we were getting for our money. Food has always been expensive in Vegas but it seems to have increased, even in the last twelve months. To put this into perspective, we had a Subway in Vegas and for two, foot-long subs it was $46. We had the same in Rexburg and it was $19.  That was just one example, it's easy to spend $50-$70 on breakfast/lunch in a restaurant and upwards of $100 for dinner. We went to Prime at Bellagio on our last night and there wasn't much change from $400....

My Review for Summer Secrets at Duck Pond Cottage by Della Galton

A rescue centre, jam-packed with animals - what's not to love?! Mr Spock the parrot is back! I first remember him from one of Della's previous books, and he's still as naughty and hilarious as he was then, but now he's moved into the rescue centre and there are lots of people available to teach him new words! Summer Secrets at Duck Pond Cottage is the second in the series about Jade's rescue centre and all the animals that she loves, cares for and rehomes. It's full of cuteness, with puppies, foxes, wedding plans and kids and easily a book that you could devour on a rainy afternoon while you're waiting for the sun to make an appearance (I'm still waiting)! This can be easily read as a standalone book, but I'd recommend reading the first in the series to begin with, just because it's another great read. My Review for Alchemised by SenLinYu, read by Saskia Maarleveld

“She couldn’t fix herself anymore, and no one else seemed inclined to even notice she was breaking.” I had to listen to the book that everyone has been raving about for months. 📚✨ I knew it was a long one, and I had way more listening time than reading time, so I requested it on Libby, waited my turn, and jumped in a couple of weeks ago. 🎧 It’s written in three parts — present, past, and present again, ⏳ — and while I didn’t enjoy the past bit as much, it did explain why everything was happening, and it made things make sense. The story is pretty dark in a lot of places 🌑⚡ and more than once I had to stop and think,  “wtf did I just listen to?!!!” 😳 I got confused about the different “mancers” — necromancer, vivimancer, etc. — and what their abilities were. In the end, I gave up and just went with the story. I still couldn’t tell you which characters were alive or dead. 💀🫠 That being said, I enjoyed it, 👍 I just didn’t delve too deeply into the reasoning behind the war, the ...
