“People are willfully blind if it’s something they don’t want to believe.” 👀

I listened to The Lake of Lost Girls for the #LetsEarItAudiobookChallenge for May 🎧📖. One thing it has confirmed for me is that I don't enjoy a podcast within a book, particularly when it's an audiobook 😅

While the story itself was brilliant ✨, with an ending I did not see coming 😳, the podcast narrators spoilt it for me. One was supposed to have an English accent 🇬🇧 and the other an American accent 🇺🇸. However, never have I ever heard anyone speaking with an English accent like that! 😬 Just hire one narrator from each country, for heaven's sake!

That aside, I really enjoyed the dual-timeline storyline 🔄, which switched between 1998 and 2022, with a different sister taking centre stage in each timeline—Jessica in 1998 and Lindsey in 2022 👭. I loved how each suspect was built up to the point where I was convinced it might be them 🕵️‍♀️, only for the plot to head off in a completely different direction 😮👏

I would definitely recommend this book 📚❤️, but I'd suggest reading it rather than listening to it 🎧➡️📖.

Summary  Thank you if you've managed to read this far and I hope you found at least some of it helpful and interesting. As a quick summary, we booked Hilton hotels (primarily Hampton Inn & Suites) throughout all the time on the actual road, apart from Yellowstone where we chose an independent hotel. We were more than happy with Hilton; choosing the same hotel means you know what you're getting. We had a budget of £150 per night (apart from Yellowstone) so that should give you some idea of what we were getting for our money. Food has always been expensive in Vegas but it seems to have increased, even in the last twelve months. To put this into perspective, we had a Subway in Vegas and for two, foot-long subs it was $46. My Review for Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

I've lost track of how many times I've read this book, and all I know is that Daphne du Maurier has been a favourite of mine since I was a teenager. So when Jamaica Inn was chosen as our January read for the classics chat I'm in, I couldn't wait to disappear again onto the wild Cornish moors! This is such a good story, and I'd forgotten a lot of what happened. I remembered the gist, the Inn in the middle of Bodmin Moor, the smuggling and the wrecks at sea, but I'd forgotten many of the characters and how influential they are to the story.  Daphne du Maurier has an incredible imagination, her vivid descriptions of the dank and dreary Jamaica Inn and the wilderness and inhospitable Bodmin Moor are something which will stay with the reader, long after the last page has been turned.  Jamaica Inn is a gothic, dark, gruesome and twisted novel, and so much more than many people perceive it. My Review for Stolen Mothers by Stacy Green

Stolen Mothers is another fast-paced thriller from Stacy Green, throwing you once again into the daily life of FBI Agent Nikki Hunt. This time she needs to find the serial killer who is responsible for killing all these women, but there is a harrowing personal story behind it all too. Did what happened nine years ago to Nikki influence what the killer did next? I sped through the book as quickly as other things allowed me to, and it was a welcome break from the fantasy worlds I am used to. Parts of Stolen Mothers are fairly graphic, but if you’re a thriller reader anyway, I’m sure you’ll have no problem devouring this in one sitting.  The book is the ninth in the Nikki Hunt series, but only the second one I have read. You definitely won’t lose anything if you read it as a standalone, as Stacy explains previous incidents, characters and everything else as she goes along.
